Five Favorite Pins of May – 2014

OMGoodness, don’t you love that it’s already May!  I can’t believe the school year is almost over… or at least I say that when my principal is around.  Truthfully, I’m excited for summer and all the new learning, relaxation, and project time that it brings. 

I will admit, I spend a lot of time on Pinterest browsing ideas, getting inspiration, and seeing how other teachers decorate and plan for teaching.  Pinterest can be a really great tool to help you plan for your own classroom and inspire you to try new things.  Why not share some of the great ideas that I found on Pinterest in the last month or so!

#1 – The BIG Song List

Here’s a fantastic song list for Music Educators and Music Therapists.  Lots of standard songs (and some new ones too) to reference when you’re thinking about what to teach, sing, and use with students.  This list was compiled by a music therapist but I think many of the things on this list are usable for anyone who can pick up a guitar or sit down at a piano or just sing a cappella with kids.  I’ve always wanted to compile a “big list” of songs that I use and separate it out by grade level.  Maybe this will be a good place to start!

#2 – The Sound of Music

I’m teaching the Sound of Music to my kiddos this month and I can’t wait to show them this fun picture when we’re done.  I’m always looking for supporting material to make musicals, stories, and histories really come to life.  Maybe I’ll print out the image and post it on my front door so kids can see it when they walk in the room.  Or maybe I’ll keep it for next year and make it a part of my classroom décor along with other May musicals.  Well, whatever happens, I’m excited to use this photo!

#3 – Using Fabric on Bulletin Boards

I already use fabric on my bulletin boards for a variety of reasons.  It doesn’t show holes, it’s reusable, it’s washable, you can dye it if it gets old, it’s super versatile and a ton of other reasons!

#4 – Ten Movement Games

I’m starting to think about camp and about next year and this post helped me get some fun ideas.  I’m definitely going to file this away for use later!  I love the part of the post that talks about “What Makes a Movement Game Great for Young Learners.”  Handy guidelines here!

#5 – Make Your Own Cajon Drum with Daria

I’ve been following Daria Music for a while now (she’s an authority on resources for multi-cultural and world music).  Daria has a series of “Make your own” world instrument and this one is FREE on her Teachers Pay Teachers site.  Love it!
